During my weekend social media blackout, which is a new routine of mine, I realised I have over thirteen social media accounts. I can’t sustain this about of interaction and engagement. I have decided to either delete, pause or continue them. I want to interact with others and develop in different ways, both personally and professionally. However, the services have to provide value. Unlike last time, I am not getting rid of social altogether. It is possible to have positive interactions online without burnout (which I don’t have).

After reviewing my interaction online, I put accounts into three categories – Keep, Pause and Delete. Here is what I came up with:
The Keep Pile
- My own website / blog
- Medium
- YouTube
- Discord
The Pause Pile
- Mastodon
The Delete Pile
- Tumblr
- Hashnode
- Lemmy
I signed off with a short message on Facebook, Instagram and Mastodon before logging out of them. I’m not sure I will return to my paused category. They have been kept open in case I want to return. My time is stretched, so getting rid of nine services I don’t find value in will help me out over the next few months as I take on new challenges. One of them is a level 2 Coding course through Gloucestershire College.
