301 redirect case study: How we came, saw, and went back

04/12/2012 No Comments

At the beginning of 2018, after we launched our 4th tool, we had many discussions about how to increase the synergy of our tools in terms of SEO.

Our philosophy of having highly focused tools, all on separate landing pages, hasn’t changed. However, we wanted to boost their SEO potential by migrating them to one domain: mangools.com.

And that’s exactly what this 301 redirect case study is about. Let me tease you a bit: This is not the usual success story of 301 redirect!

Table of contents:

  • Challenge
  • Data and time background
  • Original website
  • Checklist
  • Results of the redirect
  • CTR
  • Organic traffic
  • Investigation continues
  • Reverting back
  • Results of the revert
  • What did we learn?

Challenge

Mangools as a brand has covered all our tools for more than 2 years. It would be a logical step to migrate them on mangools.com while keeping in mind that we don’t want to create all-in-one tool. Mangools is a package of SEO tools.

The 2019 guide to ranking in Google’s featured snippets

Getting to the number 1 spot of Google’s organic search results is an uphill battle. But just because it’s hard, doesn’t mean you can’t win.

Even if you’re not occupying position 1, you can outrank it. How? Is that even possible? Yes, that is possible – by claiming a featured snippet.

In this blog post, we’ll discuss what featured snippets are, their benefits for your SEO, and how to optimize for them. Let’s get started.

What are featured snippets?

A featured snippet shows up as a block that contains the exact answer to your query. It is found right above the first organic search results, which is why it’s also called “position 0.”

Let’s say we do a Google search on “how to clean silver.” Below is a screenshot of a featured snippet for this query:

Most of the time, Google includes an image in a featured snippet. The image source can be different than the source of the answer.

Featured snippets make people’s online search easier since they can see the answer they’re looking for at a glance. Google programmatically picks the best answer from a third-party website and features it in a snippet.

New Keyword Planner by Google: What’s in for SEO and PPC?

05/03/2012 No Comments

With the updated Google AdWords (currently Google Ads) interface, it’s no surprise Google launched new Keyword Planner following the same design standards. I took a closer look at the tool and found a couple of features both for SEO and PPC efforts you should try!

In case you are not familiar with the tool at all, I recommend going through our quick Keyword Planner guide.

The new UI itself is a big step ahead. The material design looks way better that the old version.

Historical search volumes

Now let’s talk about the new features. For me, the major improvement is the historical data retention of search volumes. The new Keyword Planner enables us to see a lot more than search volumes from last 12 months.

We can select our own time frame, pick one of the presets and get historical data even from 2014 (depending on the keyword)!

Mobile search volumes

Another handy feature is the main search volumes chart now includes the mobile search volume share. You had to change the type of charts in the old version to see this.

How to find and replicate your competitors’ backlinks in minutes

IIt’s been a few weeks since we released a backlink analysis tool called LinkMiner. Right after that, we wrote a step by step guide so everyone could get familiar with all its metrics and features to find the competitors’ backlinks.

The headline on LinkMiner’s landing page says: “Find backlinks you can replicate easily”. Though “replicating backlinks” is a common term in link building, it seems that not everybody knows how to grasp the idea.

That’s why I decided to write a guide which will explain what “…backlinks you can replicate easily” stands for.

Replicating competitors’ backlinks means doing analysis of your competitors’ link profile and gaining the same backlinks they have already earned. It saves a lot of time when compared to finding a brand new opportunities.
